For many students, mathematics is the most difficult and intimidating subject they will ever face. Math is commonly thought to either come naturally or that it will never be easy. But if math difficulties are identified and strategies are put into place to assist in learning, then intimidation turns into enthusiasm. When students are confident about their math abilities, the result is positive.
Society's demand for highly educated individuals prompts parents to discover their child's strengths and weaknesses as early as possible. As your child's tutor I will work closely with you (and your child's teacher, if necessary) to address your concerns about your child's mathematics progress.
Parental involvement in the tutoring process is crucial for best results. Parents are encouraged to relax in an adjoining room while their child is being tutored. This not only makes both the child and parent more comfortable, but it sends a message to the child that the parent is engaged in his or her learning experience.
All tutoring sessions will take place in my home with the parent present. The intial session involves a short assessment to identify current math levels and to observe testing and communication characteristics. A summary of strengths and weaknesses will be provided to the parents within one week. Based on need, tutoring sessions will then be scheduled once a week.
